GPS (global positioning system) units are fast becoming a way of life.  Many auto manufacturers are now offering "OnStar" (see last month's editorial!) and the price of small handheld units are now competively priced in the $100-$150 range.  In addition, the Motorola cellphone, Model V-60X, has a built-in GPS (call 911 and you can be pinpointed to within 300 yards)...much better than the older "nearest tower" concept which could be up to 10 miles distant!

The LARC Newsletter has been published each month (except during the club's "hibernation" period) since October 1986!   Zowie!! Repeater Committee:   A new frequency pair has been submitted to SERA for coordination for our recently upgraded repeater site.  The wheels of progress turn very slowly at times, and we just have to sit back and wait for SERA to act on our request..
Disaster Trailer Committee :  At this time, the disaster trailer project is still in limbo.
EOC Kiosk Committee :  We are waiting for EOC to install the cabinetry so we can install equip.
So you have noticed!  The LARC website has undergone several changes since last month as I have migrated some pages over to the new Caldwell-NCARES website. Altho the idea was not new  and it was a project for the future , it was moved from the back burner when the Asst. SEC of ARES stated that many counties now had separate ARES/RACES websites.  After a brief conversation with Michelle, KD4YTU, it was decided to go for it now!  Both websites are now  hosted by Michelle on the same server.  If you haven't visited the new website yet, click on this link:                    http://www.caldwell-ncares.org .
